secondary research summary

Secondary research is found from books or websites.
Secondary research is work you have not done your self but you can use it to help you with your ideas.
The secondary research I had done was finding out what film posters look like and also what a film poster needs for it to be a film poster. I had found quite a few images of posters on the internet (Google). This is because I could not find images on buses, bus stops or cabs that related to what my film poster could end up like or have similar things that are the same.
It is good to look at similar posters before making my own this is because I would need an idea of what use of colour I could use that attracts the audience attention also how they lay there posters out and what is on there poster that makes it a poster and if I could include it in my film poster.

The film posters I had found where really good this is because of the detail on the film poster such as the use of tag lines, credits, and also the format of the film poster such as where they had put there images if it was in the middle, sides or even if it was at the top or bottom of the film poster.
What I have learnt about film posters and secondary research is  that film posters can be simple but really effective also the use of features on a film poster  such as stock characters, tag line, credits also the protagonist and the layouts of an film poster, These all make it show that it is a film poster and the use of images and tag line could show/ give you an idea of what the film could be about.
what I have learnt about secondary research is that the work you find on the internet or in book can be really useful for what you need to find out.

self evaluation

what I have done well in terms of performance in this assignment was I had done really well when using photoshop. This was because I did really well when having to add; different pictures, rub out backgrounds, create fonts and could have added affects to my poster.
What I though I did really well was when I had added an image to my film poster I was really good at taking the parts that was not need when adding an image, when adding an image there would be parts of the images that I did not want and I was able to use the rubber tool and rub it out. I though I did this very well because I had zoomed in to the images and took out the parts I did not need. when zooming in this was able to help me.
Another point I had done well was the use of colour being used in the background I had used two colours and then blended the colours when they had come to the middle this is because I did not want a solid line in the middle.
Because we had a double lesson and then some single lessons I was able to get a lot of work done because I had a few lessons and was able to complete my work. when it came to completing home work I was quite good at that but because I do not have a computer at home it was difficult to do most work but I would always try and do the work in college so then that way I would not be behind because the work that was set for homework, was used for the next lesson that I had. so I though I did quite well when doing my homework. Also when having to meet dead lines I though I did well because most of the work was homework or we would be set a time that the work needs to be in and I would complete my work when it needed to if any problems I would talk to miss so she could know if the work would be a bit late but I had completed work and gave to her when it was needed.

What didn't go well was that my poster did not look as if it was about cheerleading.it was not clear, this was because the people used in my film poster was not wearing cheerleaders clothes, the only thing that showed it was about cheerleading was the tittle 'CHEER POP', because most children do not look at the writing on a film poster they mostly look at the images, they would not have and idea of what the film would be about.
also what didn't go well for me was when I didn't know how to do something properly I would think of giving up because I didn't think what I did would go well.

what I need to do to improve next time for the radio advertising is I need to be more confident also I need to be able to show what it is about and making sure it relates to what the radio advertising is about. I could also maybe add less images.
Also when using photoshop I could use more affects to make the advertisement stand out a lot more.

Evaluation (how i made my film poster on photo shop)

When I had an idea of what i wanted to do for my film poster which was using three girls in the back and one girl in the front. At first i found it very hard to use photoshop because I have not used it before so I found it quite hard getting use to it.
For the background I had used grey and pink, the tool I had used for this was gradient tool. what this tool did was it blended the two colours when they had joined in the middle this was because i did not want a solid line in the middle of my film poster.
With the title 'CHEER' I had made the size 190 and made the font quite bold this is because the film is about cheerleading and I through it would be an good idea for the word 'CHEER; to be quite bold to catch the target audience eyes and also because it is the main word and the reason about the film. However the word word 'POP' is much more smaller and was about 130 in size, and it is not as bold as the word 'CHEER' his is because I wanted the word 'CHEER' to stand out more the the word 'pop' I wanted my title to be quite simple.
The name above my title 'Sophia Williams' was not to bold and it was not really small or was not to big this is because i did not want people getting confused on what one would of been the title so it had to be a decent size for the top of my film poster.

For the people on my film poster i had taken the images separately so then that way I would be able to position them where I wanted. The tool I had used to do this was the rubber tool this helped me to get rid of all the background from the images I had taken what I had to do was to zoom tight into the images this was because for me to be able to get rid of the background and get rights near to the person. At first i found this very hard because i did not zoom in at first so so I kept on rubbing out parts of the person and I would get worried if I could not find an way to get the part of the person back but to get the part back there was a certain thing at the top of the page such as: image, edit, file, layer, select etc. and in edit the first thing was undo button this would get back the part that I had arrayed by accident.

On the right hand of the bottom of the screen there would be layers. what layers where, was everything I had added to the poster would show up on layers and i could always go back and click on layer it was if it was four, six or ten, I would be able to work back on that piece of work, so at one point I wanted to move one of the stock characters a bit to the right. I was able to do this by going on layer and selecting the number/image it was.
Also on the right hand side was history. I used history to go back on the erasing I had done on my film poster this was because I had done a lot of erasing use of the images I had taken the background of it.
At the top of the screen was edit and in edit was transform and in transform was scale. what i had done with scale was enlarged the main person in my film poster which was the girl in front this was because she was the main character, so she had to stand out from the rest. With the Tagline 'girls just wanna have fun!!' was quite bold and was right under the stock characters. On the top right hand side i had used the colour tool to change the colour of the fonts.

The 12 age rating and credits where taken from the internet which was placed at the bottom of my film poster. The credits where placed in the middle at the bottom of the film poster.
For the relies date 'COMING SOON' was quite bold. i had done this so then that way the audience was able to see it at the very bottom of my film poster i had also made the colour of the relies date to be in white so it stood out from the credits being above it.

Film poster analysis

-How does your poster persuade the audience to watch the film?
My poster persuader's the audience to watch my film because it is about cheerleading and young girls in school would think the use of cheerleading is really cool and also creative also young children do not really look at the title or the use of writing they mainly look at the use of colour and images and this could attract there attention a lot more then the writing on the film poster this could persuade them to watch the film.

-How has the genre been made clear for the audience?
The genre has been made clear for my audience to recognize was the use of colour which was pink and grey at first this showed different sides to the film but my final film poster with the background of the field and the cheerleaders made it more easier to know what the film was about and also made it easier to know the film is for young girl also the use of the title 'CHEER POP' this gave an idea to the audience that it is a chick flick film and is aimed for young girls/teenagers.

-What techniques have been used to show it is a film poster?
The techniques I had used that made my poster a film poster where : I had used was a title this is because my target audience would need to know what the film would be about and you can get an idea of what the film would be about.
I had also used a tag line to give a hint, sort of like a sneak peak of what the film could be about.
Also what makes my film poster, a film poster is the age rating this is because this shows the audience that the film is suitable for them to watch and also there parents can see that its suitable for there children to watch, I had also used credits this would include directors names and also who the music was by but this tends to be quite small but it is quite important.

-What did you do to make poster look professional/stand out?
What I did to make my film poster look professional was using photo shop. What photo shop did was it helped me cut/rub out the unnecessary parts that was not needed on the film poster also when making my background grey and pink I had used a tool witch smudged the to colours in the middle this was so that there was not a solid line in the middle of my film poster of the two colours.
What made my film poster stand out was the protagonist this is because she was the larger image on my film poster and also what I think stood out on my poster was the use of the colour in the background this was because the pink was quite bright but it was not to bright that it took away and over took the other things on my film poster how ever the use of my other background of the cheerleaders on the field was also quite bright because of the use of orange.

Development of film poster idea

What I did first when starting this project, what I had done first was analysing film professional film posters. This was because I was able to see what film posters needed for it to be a perfect film poster however when looking at different genres of films such as: romance, horror, comedy etc. I was able to see what made the film poster stand out also what I through attracted my eye more from each poster. Then when analysing/ comparing each poster I was able to see what the different effects would be on the film posters for example when looking at a horror film poster I would see quite a lot of red on the film poster or maybe just the title in red and also in film posters you mainly find a big family house in the background and also quite a few trees and bushes and the protagonist in the film poster would look quite scary or look very scared this would give an idea of what the film could be based on.
where as when looking at a comedy film poster it is very different from an horror film this is because a comedy film poster would have maybe bright colours for it to stand out, this can really attract the target audience eyes also in a comedy film poster you find the people in the film poster really happy or excited. also when looking at a film poster and analysing it the background could be a family, one plain colour this is because it would make the characters stand out and also the title,

What I had also done for this project was doing my questionnaires. when I had figured out what I wanted my film was going to be about, doing the questionnaire I was able to find out what people through about my film poster and also what they think would make my film poster a good film poster for example because my film poster is a chick flick film it was quite Gurley and also because of the use of colours people where able to inform me of what I could do for it to be a good film poster. also people where also able to tell me what they through would be on a film poster and also what should be on my film poster.
Also what I found that was useful with the questionnaire was that I had asked different age groups to fill out my questionnaire this is because everyone has a different thoughts I also had used open and closed questions, what open questions where was a way for people to write what they thought also a closed question was answers I had provided for them and they would have to  tick witch box they found that suited them. I found this very helpful and useful for my film poster.

What I done that was useful was doing a draft .when doing the draft I was basically doing a mood board this was able to help me to look at the different types of images I could link to my film poster. because my film was about 'a young girl not fitting in with the other girls in the school'. what I had to was to make my film poster look like what the film is about is making the girl that does not fit in to stand out so I did in my draft was I had put images that relate to my film so images of friends also cheerleading and a girl on her own with other girls in the background, this also helped me because of the way I could set up my film poster and the way they could be positioned and also the emotions on the peoples faces in the images.

The final piece of work for this project I had done was using photo shop and making my film poster.

comparison of original idea

My original idea is quit similar to my final piece, however I had made some changes to my final poster.

What I had planed for my background in my film poster was meant to be all pink. this is because it would show that it is aimed for young girls. Then i had made the background grey and pink i had made the colours blend in the middle so there was not a solid line through the middle. I had used these images because it showed that there was a dark side to the film and then the pink also was there to show that there is a happy/nice side of the film.
I had changed my back ground three times the third  time i changed my background I made it as if it was a field  and people was watching the girls on the field do cheerleading.
this made it easier for young girls and parents to know what the film would be about.

Evaluation preparation feedback

FEED BACK
The strengths of my film poster, is the use of the colour in the background, the colours that are used are: grey and pink. what i like about my background is that the colours in the background blend together in the middle so then this way there would not be a solid line through the middle.  Also when talking in my focus group someone had said that they like the use of the colour pink because it attracts them the most because the colour is not to dull it is quite bright it is mainly the top of the film poster where there is not really any brightness shown on that part of the poster. also another point that is good about my film poster is that the title is in black this is because it can stand out from the background, because the top half of my poster is in grey it makes my title stand out.

When getting the feed back from my focus group that was really  positive was that they though when i had copied the images to my poster and cut out the background because the images had a background to it so they had to be cut out and what people though was that i had cut out the background really well so it made the images look professional.

The weakness about my film poster is that it does not show that the film is really about cheerleading other then the tittle but the background had nothing to do with cheerleading also what the people are wearing just looks as if it was just a normal day for them they don't look as if they where going to do cheerleading or they are apart of a cheerleading team. Also because the girl in middle looks quite angry it makes the film look as if it could be quite violent when it isn't.
Also in my focus group someone had said that the people in my film poster make my film poster look as if it is more of an older age type of film because they do not look very young.

What i could do to improve my film poster is maybe to change the background. this is because my film does not look as if it is based on cheerleading, so if i changed the background maybe to an feild or maybe people doing cheerleading this would give people an idea of what the film would be about and also could show that the film is for young people not for older teenagers.
